Home Meteorology

A home weather station is a great investment. The choice currently on the market is superb. Products vary from simple desk top monitoring devices that are very affordable up to very expensive models for the keen meteorologist. If you are just starting out, I would recommend purchasing a simple desk top weather station with an outside temperature sensor.

Having an outside temperature sensor is very useful. Not only can you keep an eye on outside temperature changes which are beamed back by wireless (most models have wireless sensors) to your home weather main unit, but it can enable you to make important decisions. By knowing the temperature you can decide whether delicate plants in your garden need protecting, what to wear outside or even whether to go out at all!

Most products will give you information such as inside temperature, outside temperature, humidity readings and the future weather by monitoring changes in air pressure. All the information is displayed on mainly large LCD screens so the current weather can be monitored easily.

As previously mentioned, most products have a wireless temperature sensor that can be placed around your home and garden. Some models can have more than one sensor so various areas can be watched for changes in temperature and humidity.

If a basic piece of monitoring equipment is not for you, then it would be worth investing in a more technical piece of equipment. The more expensive equipment can come with an array of sensors which can take readings for wind speed, rainfall, humidity and much more.

Along with this, software is included so you can record all data straight onto your PC and save it for future reference. This data can also be displayed in bar graphs, trends and other various ways.
